Three days is Nagambie's sweet spot: one day for the water, one for the wineries, one for the country around it. Book the bed first, because long weekends fill this town; see where to stay and check what's on the lake before committing.
01Day 1: the water
Launch or walk out early and fish the morning; the fishing guide and hot spots set you up. Non-anglers get the foreshore, the splash park and the with kids plan. Regroup for a pub dinner and an early night; the alarm on day one is the holiday's only hard rule.
02Day 2: wineries and wetlands
The civilised day: the Tahbilk wetlands boardwalk in the morning, a tasting and lunch at Tahbilk, the tower and gallery at Mitchelton in the afternoon, and the brewery deck at sunset. If the river cruise is running, slot it after lunch.
03Day 3: the country or the encore
Either the day trip: Mt Wombat lookout and a Murchison lunch, or the fishing encore at dawn before packing up. On market weekends, the farmers' market at Tahbilk is the natural final morning.
04Common questions
Is three days enough for Nagambie? Comfortably, and it is the trip the town is built for: water, wineries and one day trip, without rushing any of them.
When should I book for a long weekend? Weeks ahead. Public holiday weekends compete with regattas and summer traffic for the same beds, and dinner tables go the same way; book both when you book the dates.
