Mitchelton is a winery estate on the banks of the Goulburn River at Mitchellstown, about ten minutes' drive from Nagambie, and its tall observation tower is visible for miles: the closest thing the district has to a landmark. Where Tahbilk sells history, Mitchelton sells the full resort day: wine, dining, art, a spa and a hotel. This is an independent guide; for bookings, hours and prices, use the Mitchelton website.
01What's there
According to Mitchelton's own site, the estate has a cellar door for tastings; Muse, the restaurant, plus a casual provedore; the Mitchelton Hotel, with rooms, cabins and a guest pool; a day spa, by appointment; an art gallery and shop; and the observation tower. Opening times differ for each part of the estate, so check before you go.
02The tower
Go up it. The tower view takes in the vineyard rows, the Goulburn and the flat country beyond, and it is the single thing visitors most remember about Mitchelton. Check access arrangements with the estate, as hours can differ from the cellar door's.
03Eating: Muse or the provedore
The split is simple: Muse is the sit-down, book-ahead restaurant for a proper lunch; the provedore covers the casual coffee-and-plate end for groups who want to keep moving. On busy weekends book Muse well ahead; the current ratings for both sit in the venue listing on our wineries page.
04Staying there
The Mitchelton Hotel makes the estate a genuine overnight option, and it is the district's occasion stay; we cover it alongside the town options in motels and hotels.
05Visiting with kids
The grounds are open and green, with river views, and the gallery adds a wet-weather option. The restaurant and spa suit adults more than small children, so plan a short tasting and a walk if you have young ones. Check with Mitchelton about kids at Muse. Around the vines and cabins at dusk, kangaroos are a regular sight.
06Getting there
Mitchelton is at 470 Mitchellstown Road, Nagambie, about ten minutes from town. If you are tasting, book a driver or tour; see also the wineries guide for doing both estates in a day.
07Common questions

Mitchelton or Tahbilk, if we only have time for one? Tahbilk for history and a bush-wetlands feel; Mitchelton for dining, art and polish. With kids, Tahbilk's wetlands walk usually wins; for a long lunch or a spa day, Mitchelton. Our comparison covers it properly.
