Lake Nagambie is the Goulburn River held back by the Goulburn Weir. It is a long, shallow lake with standing dead timber, reed beds and willow-lined banks. Rowers, paddlers, skiers, boaters, swimmers and anglers all use it, often on the same weekend.
01The lake is shared, and parts of it close
Rowing and paddling regattas use a buoyed course on the lake. On big regatta days the whole lake can close to other boats, and so can the main ramps. Before you tow a boat up, check what's on the lake this weekend and the Shire's closures at Lake Nagambie page.
02Rowing and the Regatta Centre
The Nagambie Lakes Regatta Centre runs the rowing course, with school, club and masters regattas through the warmer months. If you are coming to watch, read our rowing regattas visitor guide.
03Skiing and boating
Lake Nagambie has signed speed zones, a non-powered rowing course and anti-clockwise travel for powered boats. Read our boating and water skiing guide, then check the Strathbogie Shire boating page for the current map and rules before you launch.
04Boat ramps
Several public ramps serve the lake. See boat ramps for the map and notes on each one. The Regatta Centre ramp and the Buckley Park ramp close on whole-lake regatta days.
05Swimming
People swim from the foreshore in summer. Stay well away from ramps, the rowing course and boat lanes, and keep an eye on kids near the water. Check with the Shire for any designated swimming areas.
06Fishing
Fishing is where GoFish started. The drowned timber holds Murray cod, golden perch and redfin. Start with fishing Lake Nagambie or browse the Fish section.
07Lookouts and foreshore
Jacobsons Outlook is a lakeside lawn and lookout between the Black Caviar statue and the visitor centre. It has barbecues and toilets, so it suits a picnic or a break from the car.
McNamara Point Lookout is a small lookout with covered picnic tables and a different view across the lake. There are no facilities at the lookout itself.
The Nagambie Visitor Information Centre is at 293 High St on the lakefront. Ask there for maps and current local information.
08Goulburn Weir
The structure at the northern end of the pool forms Lake Nagambie and diverts water into irrigation channels. Read the Goulburn Weir guide for its history, visiting notes and fishing below the wall.
