Euroa sits half an hour east of Nagambie where the flat country meets the Strathbogie Ranges, and it is the most complete town stop on the Hume side of a Nagambie weekend: a genuinely handsome heritage main street, a creek running through the middle of town, and the ranges rising behind it.
01The town
Euroa's main street rewards a slow walk: late-Victorian shopfronts, cafes and the kind of country bakery run that competes honestly with Nagambie's. The town makes a natural lunch-and-stroll stop on the way to or from the Strathbogies and Mt Wombat, which is the pairing that fills a day.
02Seven Creeks
Seven Creeks runs through the middle of Euroa under its river gums, and it is a lovely picnic water with a serious conservation story: the creek system holds protected Macquarie perch, and parts of it carry special fishing rules as a result. If you are tempted to fish it, check the VFA's rules for the water first, and release any Macquarie perch immediately. For a guaranteed fishing session, the Goulburn at Seymour or the Nagambie Lakes are the safer bets.
03Making the trip
The Hume-side loop from Nagambie runs Avenel (Fowles lunch), Euroa (main street and creek), then up into the ranges for the Mt Wombat lookout, and home; our day trips guide has the full set. Euroa also works as the wet-weather fallback town when the ranges are socked in.
